Halt is live: a Shopify app that stops card-testing bots

Native Code today released Halt: Card Testing Blocker on the Shopify App Store. Halt runs inside Shopify checkout and refuses card-testing attempts before any charge is made. A store owner has nothing to refund and loses no card fee. It is free for 14 days, then $6.99 a month.
Halt: Card Testing Blocker is available today on the Shopify App Store. It is Native Code’s first app on the store. It does one job: it refuses card-testing attempts at the payment step, before any charge is made.
Card testing is when a bot runs stolen card numbers through an online store’s checkout to find the ones that still work. The store owner wakes up to dozens of small orders from names that do not exist. Each one has to be refunded, and the card processing fee on each refund is not returned. On a busy night, that adds up to real money for a store that sold nothing.
Before the charge, not after
Most fraud tools act after the order exists. Halt acts before. It checks every checkout and stops the ones that reuse the same email, address, or phone number within a day. Customers who have ordered from the store before are never stopped. Halt starts in watch mode, so a store owner sees what it would have stopped before it stops anything.
“Every store owner we talked to had the same story. A pile of one-dollar orders at three in the morning, and a fee lost on every refund,” said the founder. “Halt is the switch we wanted to exist. Turn it on, bots get stopped, and your customers never notice.”
What it includes
Halt works on every Shopify plan, including Basic, with nothing to add to a store’s theme or checkout. It includes:
- A bait product option, a trap item only a bot would buy. Any guest checkout with it in the cart is refused.
- Email alerts when an attack starts, and a daily summary on busy days.
- A plain-language activity log of every stopped checkout and why, with one click to allow a real customer for good.
- No stored customer emails or addresses. Halt keeps only that the same details came back, and forgets after a day.

Halt is available now on the Shopify App Store. It is free for 14 days, then $6.99 a month, with no usage fees. A 90-second video shows a bot being stopped, and a short walkthrough covers setup from install to the first stopped checkout.
